Conference Player Of The Month for September Danny Wright Wright Wright

Danny Wright continues to be the old school centre-forward for Gateshead despite his gaffer owning almost every non-league striker in Christendom.

If you have seen him play you will understand what a quality piece of work he is. I still think the goal he goat in the play-off semi-final against Trinity, for Wrexham, was one of the finest strikes I have seen. With his shorts being pulled to his ankles by the full-back he sent a thirty-five yarder arcing around the keeper into the far corner, but a fivers breadth under the bar and inside the post. He is brave and will keep delivering for the team and the fans.

Danny has averaged a goal every 140 minutes so far this term, but September was a stormer. He was not even in the side or squad until the 9th of September when Telford were beaten 4-1 with Wright getting a goal and an assist. His header then settled the Dartford game 1-0. Then came the equaliser against Macc with that sweet right foot of his. He also ensured Gateshead got 1-1 draws with a strike against Aldershot and an unstoppable drive with his left peg against The Imps.

That is the way to stay in a side.

On the announcement of the award Danny said, “I've played in this division for a number of years, and I've never had a month that has come together like this one. I couldn't have wished for a better start to my Gateshead career. I'm absolutely delighted with the award, but I can't relax. I have to keep on going as I have. Hopefully as a team we can push on now, and start turning those draws into wins."
The official awards panel said, “After leaving Forest Green Rovers at the end of August in his short time at his new club, Danny has scored five goals in as many games. This has enabled the Heed to remain amongst the leading pack of the pacesetters in the Vanarama Conference.”
